Les Riceys 870 hectares of vineyards make it the largest wine making commune in Champagne. It’s also the only village in the region to have 3 Controlled Appellation wines.
The most famous is the Rose des Riceys. It was said to have been the favourite wine of Louis XIV. This rare wine has a delicate bouquet of wild flowers, violets and hazelnuts. The production in the best years is limited to no more than 80, 000 bottles.

A tasting with one of the twenty or so wine makers who are passionate about their special wine is not to be missed.


Les Riceys: three villages in one
 
Ricey-Bas, Ricey-Haut and Ricey-Haute-Rive that lie in the valley of the Laignes make up this village. It’s a mixture of the styles of Burgundy and Champagne. There are three listed churches, two chateaux, nine chapels and eight washhouses. The wine makers also built graceful houses with the local limestone of which you can see many examples.  Tradition has it that the Ricetons who went to work on the construction of the basins at Versailles introduced the Rose des Riceys to the Sun King.




The 3 star Hotel Le Marius is situated next to the church of St Peter in Chains.

It’s open from midday Tuesday to midday Sunday. Monsieur and Madame Josselin and their staff will be there to welcome you into this haven of peace in the calm of the countryside.


  




 

The hotel has 11 rooms of which 5 are family rooms. The luxurious bedrooms have been decorated in different styles and have names linked to Champagne: Millesime, Selection, Grande Cuvee or the three Controlled Appellations, Champagne, Coteaux Champenois and Rose des Riceys.

Four houses were joined to create a hotel whose comfortable rooms with their refined decoration are waiting for you to come and enjoy them.
